<![CDATA[Bean Groovy - Roasting]]>Sat, 19 May 2012 20:56:07 -0500Weebly<![CDATA[A little about me]]>Tue, 11 Oct 2011 14:35:21 -0500http://beangroovy.com/2/post/2011/10/first-post.htmlI am often asked about my background and why I chose to open Bean Groovy.  I began roasting my own coffee years ago.  It was truly curiosity.  A little research got me started when I found green beans available online.  My next step was deciding what to use to do my roasting.  There are various models available on the market for hundreds of dollars. There are also the suggest popcorn air poppers.  I chose to get creative and build something from scratch.  That's the way I roll!
After a couple of prototypes I finally came up with something that worked really well and I was happy with.  My design consisted of a propane gas grill which I gutted.  I had a stainless steel drum made for me from a local machine shop.  Using a heavy duty spit and an appropriate motor to keep the beans turning at a smooth consistent speed.  
Everything about this roaster was manual but it worked well, as you can see from the pictures below of the beans that I roasted.
